I've been looking around and apparently the game company behind it is bankrupt (nautilus/midway) and no one has the rights to it anymore. Will/can Sony ever release a ps2 version to the playstation store or can a company like bluepoint (who port a ps2 game to ps3) just make a HD collection without getting the rights to the game? Or am I just confusing the process of porting a ps2 to ps3 game?
Is there anything fans of the game series can do to get it released in some way (petitions/kickstarter)?
Edit update : I contacted the Sony psn services and they said

It seems that the rights for the series in question are owned by a Japanese company called Universal Entertainment Corporation. Midway (when they existed) merely owned the publishing rights for some western markets. If they have plans on re-releasing the series, we currently have no information on it.
